‘Space, Struggles, and a Focus for the Future’

Many of you will have seen in the media that the Government have committed funding for premises within Primary Care. It is disheartening to share that we have been informed it is unlikely we will receive any of this funding within Chard — primarily because it focuses on converting existing internal space rather than creating a new building or extension.
This isn’t just our story; it reflects a national pattern where funding streams often overlook vital developments that require changes to infrastructure in favour of low-cost solutions that make use of what already exists.
We need you, our patients, to know we are not standing still.
We have been actively working with the Council, NHS, and other partners to find a way forward for a while now; A way forward that results in a building that is sustainable, truly fit for purpose, and able to meet the growing needs of our community.
Unfortunately the plans proposed by our developers in 2024 were declined due to funding issues. This was an immense disappointment as we had focussed on not only the needs of the Practice but also the wider Chard development plan.
As a result of this application being declined, we knew that primary care services would be impacted and we have put in place as many different solutions as possible to help reduce this impact, but inevitably there is shortfall.
Whilst there may not be solutions and finance available, we are still trying to find ways to support you and the Chard community in any way we can.
As it stands - our rooms are full.
The gap between what we can offer and what people need is growing, and it’s deeply demoralising. Our staff, whether that be Clinical, Management or Admin joined the NHS to provide a high quality of care to the community and this is becoming increasingly difficult.
As a practice, we are stretched.
Patients are waiting and some are choosing to register elsewhere as it is perceived we do not care. Our commitment to the community has never been stronger and we are fighting daily to try and improve what we are offering within such restrictions.
We know we’re not alone in this, whilst there is negativity posted online, in equal measure we have such kind words from patients daily and your continued support means everything whilst we seek the facilities to allow us to deliver the care you deserve.
We also need your help - work with us, not against us.
Reach out to the Patient Participation Group (PPG) as we are keen to brainstorm how we can get funding into Chard and improvements to our service.
Thank you for taking the time to read our thoughts.
